Adopt or Adapt these Tools for Teaching about
Hispanic Heritage Month
The goal of teaching specific cultural heritage months
is to help students understand and appreciate
the many cultures that create modern American culture.
Hispanic Heritage Month is an official celebration of American citizens whose ancestry
can be traced back to Spain, Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean.
It is important to avoid stereotypes. Lessons and activities should rely on factual information,
teach about real people, and focus on the ways diversity makes our community and nation strong.
